Julie Barrow, founder of Discover Health and Powerfit, has added a powerful new dimension to her holistic wellbeing services by qualifying as a Mental Health Exercise Coach (MHEC) through the nationally recognised MyMHEC.com programme.

The qualification equips professionals with the knowledge and skills to use movement safely and effectively to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD and low self-esteem.

Julie, who has long championed personalised, compassionate health support through her work at Discover Health, sees this new accreditation as a natural extension of her mission.

“I’m passionate about helping people build resilience and reconnect with themselves – and movement can be a really powerful part of that,” says Julie. “The MHEC training has deepened my understanding of how to safely support people struggling with their mental health, and how to make exercise something they can actually enjoy and sustain.”

The MHEC programme was developed by experts in fitness and mental health to address the UK’s growing demand for more inclusive, accessible wellbeing solutions. With one in four adults experiencing a mental health condition each year, coaches like Julie are playing an important role in offering safe spaces where people can move, talk and heal without judgement.

Discover Health and Powerfit, both based in Simonstone, Lancashire, already offer a range of support including lifestyle coaching, health assessments, and workplace wellbeing services. The addition of MHEC sessions means clients can now benefit from a more integrated approach – using physical activity as a tool to improve mood, manage stress, and build confidence.

Julie is now welcoming new clients for one-to-one and group sessions, both in person and online.
